Membership Notes

We want to encourage players of all levels and abilities so there is currently no playing-in or minimum standard. However, some events and coaching is set by ability or is limited to adults or juniors.

Membership entitles a person to use of club facilities. Junior, student, adult, senior and family membership types are offered at affordable price. The club has tennis coaching, inter-club matches and social tennis events.

Coaching - We offer junior and adult coaching for all levels; both in groups and one-to-one. Our coach is an ex-professional player, Justin Layne. Justin lives in the village and was until recently a top ten player in the country and now runs a professional tennis programme for the LTA. We are lucky to have a coach with his experience.

Social Tennis - Social tennis for adults is currently on Wednesday mornings from 9:30am until 12, Wednesday evenings from 7:30pm and on Saturday afternoons from 2pm. These is free to attend for members. Adults and older juniors members that have had some coaching or can play (i.e. serve consistently) are welcome to attend.

Tournaments - Adult tournaments run during the summer season, occasionally replacing the social tennis on Saturday afternoons. These are doubles format and are for the enjoyment of all (as opposed to winning!) – there is often a small charge (~£2.50) for refreshments or a BBQ. Publicised on the club newsletter these are an excellent way to meet fellow members

Selection of Teams - We enter men’s, ladies’ and mixed doubles teams in the inter-club Bedfordshire leagues. Team captains are elected by committee and select their teams from new and existing members. Currently we have 8 teams in the summer leagues and are set to enter more .in the coming winter leagues so if you fancy playing competitively we will be able to accommodate you

Floodlights - Floodlights are available for members use and are operated from within the electricity cupboard inside the hut by means of separate red and green push button on off switches for each court. There is a master time clock which restricts usage to between 3pm and 11pm

Rules

The club asks members to look after our facilities, to be considerate to all members and their guests and to recognise the etiquette of play. In particular, parents are asked to remind junior members of the following code of conduct:

• take all your rubbish home or place it in a bin provided

• do not ride bicycles, skateboard etc. on the courts

• The order of priority for court time is

1. league matches
2. club organised coaching  & social sessions
3. club tournament or ladder matches
4. general social play (this includes personally organised coaching)

It is not possible for members to specifically reserve court time. If members arrive for a club tournament match when both courts are in use for social play then please allow the existing players to complete their set (up to 30 minutes) before requesting the court. Once a club tournament match has been started it can be played to completion without reference to the 30 minute rule unless a league match or organised club session is due to start.

• during general social play if others are waiting or arrive, please complete your set (up to 30 mins) and then swap

• please wait until a point is finished before walking behind the other court

• do not retrieve a ball from another court when play is underway or about to re-start

• adults have priority after 7pm Monday to Friday and after 2pm on weekends

• junior members are not allowed access to the Clubhouse unsupervised.

Club Rules are displayed in the clubhouse and are available on request. By signing an application for membership, members undertake to abide by the club’s rules and regulations (parent or guardian to sign on behalf of juniors). In particular, entry cards and keys must not be lent to anyone else.
